The Road From Santiago.

Posted on September 14, 2025September 14, 2025by Kelvin Collins

The empty road. Heading east towards Lugo on a Sunday.  Fiesta Sunday.  The towns are packed.  The big road is empty.  50kms and hardly a car.  It doesn’t feel real for driving to be this easy. Can I leave the van do its thing and climb in the back to make a cup of tea? […]

Back on the road. Lands End to Fisterra.

Posted on September 7, 2025September 7, 2025by Kelvin Collins

The first blog is always the hardest. The easy thing is to not write it at all. Writing is like a muscle, exercise and it works better. Let’s test the theory… The Grey Ferry. Llanes and other Spanish adventures. The huge Pont Aven ferry leaves Plymouth 15 minutes late.  The team is stressed, it has […]

Leaving Sicily. Greeting Italy.

Posted on May 10, 2025May 10, 2025by Kelvin Collins

There are days when there’s no need to move on and the temptation to stay pulls strong.  We have a ferry in four days.  We could cover the distance in a morning.  Or we could see more and be out of the (Taormina) tourist trap. Out before it fills on Saturday morning.  We opt to […]

Sicily. And the shadow of Etna.

Posted on May 3, 2025May 3, 2025by Kelvin Collins

Caltagirone. Inland, the hill town of Caltagirone is a hotbed of ceramic talent.  The churches are topped with ceramic tiled domes. Every pillar, bollard and practically every wall has tiled decorations. Street planters are huge prettily painted pots. And while we’ve seen ceramics everywhere on the island, here the extravagance, colour and detail pushes the […]
